We are top-tier energy specialists with over 70 years of combined development experience.

Our two founders have over 40 years of experience developing, financing, and constructing renewable energy projects across multiple international markets. They have delivered over 5,000 megawatts across the USA, Canada, Ireland, and the UK.

Both founders’ agricultural upbringings have shaped their outlook and as a result, they understand the importance of working collaboratively with landowners and local communities to create mutually beneficial projects that can offer diversified sources of income. 

Meet the Founders

WhiteRock Renewables was founded by Brett O’Connor and John Wycherley after collaborating on many renewable energy projects over several years.

  • Co-founder & Director

    Brett leads the company’s finance and commercial functions including leading negotiation of Development Services Agreements with international clients and contract administration of existing relations.

    Chartered Civil Engineer, several years experience in civil engineering contracting and engineering design complimented by a 25 year business career. Executive c-level board roles in two prior start-ups in telco infrastructure [1999-2005] and renewables [2005]. Co-founder of TCI Renewables [2005], a UK based wind development business with responsibility for leading project success across UK, Canada and USA. Renewable project development and construction experience across, UK, Ireland, Canada, USA and MENA. Worked as a consultant [2019-2022] for leading US IPP advising on a repower program strategy across WECC, ERCOT, SPP and PJM. Evidenced ability to expand and lead development teams operating across several international markets. Substantial experience of executing; substantial land acquisition campaigns for renewable generation assets and associated transmission lines, complex permitting processes, PILOT agreements, PPA negotiation & execution, securing PPAs in RFPs across several international markets, FERC disputes, interconnection planning, capex and opex evaluation, financial modelling, debt, and tax equity project financing, etc. Extensive wind turbine evaluation, selection, and TSA negotiation across multiple international markets

  • Co-founder & Director

    John is an American and Irish citizen and leads all of the company’s development activities, based in Dallas, Texas.

    BSc Computer Science & MSc in Business from National University of Ireland, Cork supplemented by over 15 years in renewable development across Europe and the USA. Led the formation and expansion of a development team in Ireland to successfully execute projects from site evaluation through to construction and operations. Senior development leadership roles leading teams through successful pipeline execution to operational assets. Led successful project execution through development to operations in East, West and ERCOT grid regions. Successfully leading development on project pipelines of which 3.6 GW is now operating. Transaction lead on acquiring > 1 GW of wind and solar development pipeline followed by leading multiple project execution to NTP. Deep experience in US renewables market leading teams through commercially complex development environments including; FERC disputes, incidental take permits, complex aviation and airspace challenges all with tight timelines and still achieving above-market sponsor returns. Driven entrepreneurial mindset proven through past start-up experiences and the decision to depart from a defined corporate career path to co-found WhiteRock Renewables
